Keekorok Lodge was one of the first lodges to be built inside Kenya's Mecca of wildlife, the Masai Mara National Reserve, and that means you have one of the best locations in one of the world's best game parks. The lodge is surrounded by ancient acacias, a thick covering of colonial lawn, and an even thicker wall of East Africa bush. The 85 rooms – refurbished in 2006 – are spacious and well-appointed with local materials and artworks. The en suite bathrooms are enormous and the showers have what seems like an endless supply of piping hot water at a constant high pressure.
The restaurant has a wide choice of meals freshly prepared and laid out in an enticing buffet. Service is efficient and friendly and the guides will amaze you with their knowledge and personal wildlife experiences. The lodge is open to the great game park and several wild animals make a habit of wondering through the premises – keep your camera and a game scout with you at all times. A feature of Keekorok Lodge is the hippo bar at the end of a 300m boardwalk and overlooking a small lake surrounded by lush riverine forest – a fine way to end the evening.
