Foreign Minister Maas On Talks With Nigeria Regarding Museum Cooperation

BERLIN, 24 March 2021 / PRN Africa / -- Foreign Minister Maas on talks with Nigeria regarding museum cooperation:

The question of returning cultural property is an integral part of dealing honestly with our colonial past. It's a matter of justice. We have set ourselves clear goals in this regard, agreed by federal, regional and local governments in Germany. The Federal Foreign Office is taking on the task of working with international partners to create the necessary conditions. With respect to the Benin Bronzes, we are coordinating with stakeholders in Nigeria and Germany to establish a common framework, above all as regards museum cooperation with the planned Museum of West African Art EMOWAA in Benin City.
