With Summer right around the corner, Nike (NYSE:NKE -1.40%) looks to bring back its weird and wonderful Air Rift silhouette in its original black and green colors. Inspired by Kenyan barefoot runners and named after the Great Rift Valley, a geographic rift that runs from Lebanon to Mozambique, the Air Rift is no doubt one of the most visually distinct footwear options in the Swoosh’s lineup featuring a shoe/sandal design equipped with tabi toes.
Following its initial release in the US and Europe, it became a hot commodity in Japan, finding its home in the flourishing Harajuku street-style scene. Throughout the years, the silhouette has been adapted via various collaborations with the likes of Halle Berry and reworked into new styles such as the Air Rift Breathe. With the upcoming release, Nike takes it back to 1995, delivering one for the purists.
