African Energy Week (AEW) Releases First Video for its Energy Investment Drive

Having set itself up as the official energy event to secure investment and make deals regarding African energy, this year’s edition of African Energy Week promises even more opportunities for networking, dealmaking and growth.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, May 19, 2022/ -- Africa’s premier event for the oil and gas industry, African Energy Week (AEW) 2022 (AECWeek.com), has officially launched the first video for its energy investment tour ahead of the event’s 2022 edition. With AEW 2022 set to take place in Cape Town from October 18-21, the video showcases what delegates, speakers and partners can expect during this year's edition, as the event drives the continent into a new era of dealmaking and growth. Representing the official platform for a discussion on Africa’s energy future, this year’s edition will take place under the theme, ‘Exploring and Investing in Africa’s Energy Future while Driving an Enabling Environment,’ centralizing all discussions around scaling up investment in current and emerging energy markets. As the continent kickstarts development across the oil, gas and renewables sectors, AEW 2022 has strategically positioned itself as the official platform to sign deals that will reshape the continent’s energy future.

“Africa needs investment, and it needs investment now. Making energy poverty history by 2030 will only work if more investment is directed towards the continent, driven by market-focused enabling environments. This is what AEW is all about and what we will continue to drive at the 2022 edition in Cape Town,” states NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber (AEC), adding that, “A lot of energy players are already on board. I am excited about this year because we have a unique opportunity to make a difference with our work, opening up as many energy opportunities as we can.” In 2021, AEW managed to secure its position as the only Africa-focused, Africa-hosted energy event since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. While competitors chose to abandon the continent citing COVID-19 challenges, AEW 2021 maintained its promise to the continent and its people, and the 2022 edition of the event will be no different. During AEW 2021, a focus was placed on deals, investment and making energy poverty history – a mandate that has only become more pressing in 2022. With millions of dollars-worth of deals signed during AEW 2021, the 2022 investment drive paves the way for the 2022 edition to double this figure.

“We received some noisy competition from a group that migrated to Dubai last year, so I am asking you to bring this thing home for Africa. We need free markets, an expanded energy industry, to alleviate energy poverty and drive more opportunities for women and youth while having a balanced approach to climate change. After many trips and meetings with most of you, this really is a tipping point for us, and that momentum only continues if we stay at it. So join me, join us, as we push AEW from Cape to Cairo. Let’s do this together and let’s make energy poverty history by 2030,” continues Ayuk.

Emphasizing the African position on global energy investments, AEW 2022 is proud to host industry delegations, movers and shakers, and energy leaders from across the continent. Ministerial confirmations from resource-rich nations including Ghana, South Africa, Senegal, Nigeria, Angola, Niger, South Sudan, Namibia, Kenya, Uganda, Somalia, Mozambique, Germany, Norway, Canada, the United States, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Equatorial Guinea, the Republic of Congo, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo and more. The importance of ensuring the discussion on Africa remains in Africa.
