His death was announced on state television by Tanzania’s Vice President Samia Sulhu Hassan on Wednesday. There's been rumour about his health circulating in the news and social media for the past two weeks. President Magufuli was born on 29 October 1959.

President Magufuli served as the fifth President of Tanzania from 2015. He was also the chairman of the Southern African Development Community from 2019–2020.
