Chalo Chatu is Zambia’s first ever online encyclopaedia that’s taken up the responsibility to document the entire Zambia according to Jason Mulikita the founder and CEO of the project.
He also said that they are trying to preserve the history and pride of Zambia by building this knowledge hub for all Zambian related topics covering historical events and current historical events appearing in within minutes and also covers notable public figures, companies, organizations, websites, national monuments and other notable key features of Zambia if it pass our notability standards.
All content on the website is under the license Common Creative license (CC BY-SA 3.0) which means it is available for free to public, but cannot be used for commercial purpose. Jason also stated that they want Chalo Chatu’s content to be used in academic studies, books and conferences that’s why they are trying by all means to make Chalo Chatu as reliable as possible in terms of accuracy of information, appropriateness of the images, style, Stability, comprehensive and also the quality of writing.
In an interview with Chalo Chatu’s Chief Operating Officer Chabota Kanguya he said that Chalo Chatu is open to the public , and anyone can come can join the movement in documenting Zambia and also they want Chalo Chatu to be a collaboratively written, edited and contributed by the community much like any traditional organization but doesn’t allow anonymous editing . Chabota also stated out that Chalo Chatu is a work in progress as it is an ongoing project as articles on the website keep expanding in so doing the quality improves and misinformation and other errors are removed or corrected. Articles on Chalo Chatu are never considered as complete and may continually edited and improved, some articles may start out as displaying a single viewpoint but after discussions, debates and arguments they gradually take a neutral point of view.
Chalo Chatu is slowly becoming a reference site as many visitors who visit the website visit to share or acquire knowledge. ChaloChatu.org is ran by the Chalo Chatu foundation a non-profitable organization which relies on donations made by the general public to maintain and to pay for the servers that come with a high cost.
